The Betty & Gordon Moore Library

Staff Holiday Period

The libary will keep its usual staffed opening hours up until Friday, December 22nd at 17:00. The staff will return on January 2nd at 09:00.

Those with validated 24-hour access cards will still be able to use the library throughout the Christmas period but should take note of the following two dates...

Dark Library Day

On Thursday 28 December from 8:30 we need to once more shut down the library transformer for further maintenance work. This will mean no power to the library and many of the pavilions on site. Duration of the outage will most likely be about 4 hours, but it could be longer.

As a consequence, we recommend postponing your visit to the library on that particular day. Other than the obvious lack of power, there will be only emergency lighting in the corridors and stairwells, there will be no water for toilets or wash basins and fire alarm and emergency lighting systems will all be relying on battery back-ups. We wouldn’t want you to get caught in the dark with “Bones”, our resident skeleton!

Chilly Library Day

On Saturday 30 December, you’ll need a thick jumper and your “chill-be-gone” booties as there will be no gas supply for heating whilst the faulty gas regulator and meter are replaced. To counteract the loss of heat, the site facilities manager will run heating the night beforehand so that the temperature is reasonable throughout the day.

Both dates have been specifically chosen to minimise any inconvenience as it is hoped that most people will be away for the Christmas break.
