Updated November 29, 2021: In line with the government’s public health guidance, the University of Cambridge expects face coverings to be worn in all our libraries by students, staff and visitors (unless exempt). Thank you for helping to reduce the risk of further disruption and illness.

The Betty & Gordon Moore Library offers a range of online support services and ways you can access our collections, to help you learn, teach and research. See individual reduced contact services web pages for variations in availability and consult the website regularly as we start to bring back library services to almost pre-Covid levels.

***New for the start of the academic year is our updated physical sciences libguide. This guide has been developed to help signpost useful information for staff and students studying Physical Sciences at the University of Cambridge. As the University moves towards more normal ways of working this guide contains information on updated opening hours and services, using both the physical and online study spaces as well as tools to help you stay productive.***

Recommending items for purchase

The Moore Library does not subscribe to journals independently. If you would like to recommend a journal to the Journal Co-ordination Scheme, please use the e-resources form located here.

Registered University of Cambridge readers are welcome to recommend books for purchase by the Moore Library. Please provide all the information requested in the form below so that we are able to process your recommendation.

You might like to take into consideration the following points before submitting a recommendation for purchase:

  • We will attempt to buy out-of-print books but readers should be aware that this can be a lengthy process as it is not such a straightforward process.
  • We can buy extra copies of books on reading lists.
  • We are part of Cambridge University Library, and so generally don't buy buy copies of books already held at the UL. This can be reviewed on a case by case basis depending on the status/availability of the UL copy.
  • We can only buy books on subjects falling within our collection development policy.
  • There may be a delay in ordering books recommended between late July and the end of August each year, due to the switchover from one University financial year to the next. If possible, please make any urgent recommendations for the summer before the end of June.

If you have any questions, please either send an email to or telephone 01223 (7)68220.

To make a request please use this online Book Recommendation Service Form.
