On Saturday 12 March, the Moore Library in collaboration with Shepreth Wildlife Park, the Cambridge Conservation Initiative & the Zoology Museum presented a fascinating history of the Biological Tea Club, an early 20th century student science society in Cambridge and their obsession with dragons.
Members included notable women, such as Grace Pickford, and the ‘Father of Modern Ecology’, George Evelyn Hutchinson, with the Club providing an opportunity for them to discuss their research, whilst partaking of cream buns ‘without fork, spoon or any other apparatus’!
A crowdsourced effort that required the welcome help of local librarians and businesses, the event was also able to provide visitors the chance to meet real life bearded dragons and to create their own dragon to take home.
Extremely well-attended, the Moore Library is considering a repeat event in the near future.
